Coming this Fall to a TV near you!

Yesterday I was procrastinating from revision and came across all the fall previews for this year. I'd never watched these previews before, I didn't even know they existed, cause I used to wait for shows to start airing on UK channels. Having no TV at Uni, I've since turned to streaming, I know, naughty Megan, so am in sync with the US. 

Having watched all the previews for the main channels I have to say I think I'll be glued to my laptop in September. It sort of, not really, makes up for the complete lack of TV over the Summer. Seriously, why do literally all the shows stop over Summer?

I thought I'd show you some of the shows that I really like the look of.

Sean Saves the World (NBC)

Jack from Will & Grace has a daughter!

Welcome to the Family (NBC)

Honestly? I'm watching this for Mike O'Malley but it does look ok despite that.

Dads (Fox)

A show that has Seth McFarlane as a producer? Done.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox)

This just looks like all kinds of hilarious and was one of the few trailers that actually made me laugh out loud.

The 100 (CW)

Again it's the cast that draws me to this, well specifically Eliza Taylor who used to be on the Australian Soap Neighbours.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (ABC)

It's a spin-off of Avengers and apparently Agent Coulson lives so what's not to like?

Intelligence (CBS)

The only drama except for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that caught my attention. A guy has a chip in his head that basically turns him into Jarvis. 

Us & Them (Fox)

Sheer morbid curiosity is making me add this to the list. This is basically the American version of Gavin & Stacey and I'm intrigued to see how it works. Plus, Alexis Bledel.

There were others that I thought looked watchable too but these are the ones that stood out. Fox looks to have picked up the best shows in my opinion, especially if Us & Them can live up to Gavin & Stacey but we'll have to wait and see which live up to their previews.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

In recent days I've become re-obsessed with 8 Simple Rules. I used to watch it way back when, when it was on ABC1 or some other random channel in the depths of Freeview but I decided that I'd watch it from the beginning. I'd forgotten how hilarious the show was!

Today, however, I watched a not so funny episode, in fact, it was the saddest episode in the history of episodes. It was Goodbye, the first episode that didn't have John Ritter in it. Ritter played the patriarch of the Hennessy family, Paul, but sadly passed away suddenly while filming Season 2. The writers made the right choice of writing John's death into the show as opposed to re-casting him.

It's not often I cry at TV shows but this, even though it was not my first time watching it, brought serious tears to my eyes. It also got me thinking about something. In the show Bridget is upset because the last thing she ever said to her Dad was "I hate you" but then they read Paul's final article in which he writes about just that, his children's constant jibes towards him. He then goes on to say that despite what his children say, he knows they don't mean it and "for every "I hate you" there's an "I love you" not far behind". 

Words can hurt but it also depends on how you say them. I may find endless things wrong with my family and at times they may annoy the living daylights out of me but I'm pretty sure I've never told any of them that I hate them. However, I've also never told them I love them either. It's just not something that we as a family do. You may find that strange or sad but I like to think that they know the feelings are there even if they are not said.

This quote is more than perfect. While, I'm not saying you should never tell someone how you feel about them or how important they are to you, you should also show them as well. Actions speak lounder than words.

This ended up being a pretty deep post for me and I'm not sure it really has a point but these were my thoughts having watched Goodbye and I decided to write them down. I hope you found this vaguely interesting and at any rate, you should definitely go check out 8 Simple Rules if you haven't already.

A Strictly Awesome Final!

If you don't live in the UK this post will probably won't mean a lot to you but for the past 14 weeks Strictly Come Dancing has been the highlight of my week. I've watched it every year since series 2 and it just keeps getting better every year!

But now it is over.

For the first time in the 10 series run, there was 4 couples in the final last night: Louis & Flavia, Dani & Vincent, Denise & James and Kimberly & Pasha.

I wasn't surprised in the slightest that Dani was the first to leave. As brilliant as she was she just wasn't unto the standard of the other three. Now, Kimberly, Denise and Louis, there just was not a pin between them. I didn't vote because I genuinely could't decide who to vote for. Admittedly, through most of the series I'd been a keen supporter of Kimberly and Pasha but that was mainly due to being a fan of Girls Aloud. However last night all three blew out the water and I just couldn't choose.

I wasn't too surprised that Denise didn't win because, like Matt Baker last year, she peaked too early (i.e. she was awesome from the start). The British public like to vote see an improvement over the series which you really didn't get with Denise.

Kimberley was sort of in the same boat as she too has been pretty good from very early on. She also came from a very dance oriented background.

Louis however had many things on his side in terms of winning over the Great British public. One, he's a guy and it's well known that guys have the harder job on Strictly what with having to lead and what not. Two, he's a gymnast, this meant he could pull off some amazing tricks and a damn fine body but also, it meant he was the only one in the final who didn't really come from a performance background and again the British public appreciated that he ultimately had a tougher job than the others.

So now that I think about it I'm really not surprised Louis won and to be honest, the final three, without a doubt, deserved to be in the final so I would have been happy had any of them won.

This season really has been brilliant. The level of dancing talent has been ridiculously high and for the first time since 2009 we've had 4 judges who actually knew what they were talking about! For one Darcy Bussell is, well, Darcy Bussell. You know? One of the most famous ballet dancers ever so naturally she knows about dancing and once she nipped the annoying 'yah' bud in the head after week 1 she really became a great judge.

I'm so glad we got to see all the finalists dance their showdance because it always used to annoy me that one couple wouldn't get too. I'm still on the fence as to how much I like Wembley week. Part of me just feels it's too big and the dancers get a little lost but it does make a nice change. 

My biggest fault with the show now is Brucie. I just think it's time for him to retire. The week when it was just Tess Daley and Claudia Winkleman was so much better and so much less cringeworthy and painful to watch. Plus, Claudia is just hilarious and awesome and I love her. Also, did anyone else notice how painfully obvious it was that Robbie Williams wasn't actually there when Bruce and Tess were thanking him? I mean, come on! We know damn well the musical performances are never live so why try and kid us that the are.

So now begins the post Strictly schlump where I don't know what to do with my Saturday nights and I wonder what the hell I did for all the other Saturdays before it started. Seriously, what did I do? Oh yeah, tumblr…
